About Us

Segue Expressive Therapies has been serving the Northern Utah area since 2021. Founded by Emily Salisbury, Segue Expressive Therapies has a mission to provide growth and healing through music therapy. The name was born out of a desire to assist our clients as they "segue" into a new chapter of their lives, or to help them finish their last chapter.

Emily Salisbury

SCMT, MT-BC

Executive Director | Music Therapist

Davis, Weber & Boxelder Counties

Emily Salisbury received her BS in music therapy from Utah State University and is the owner of Segue Expressive Therapies. She has worked in a variety of settings, but specializes in hospice work. Emily completed the Hospice and Palliative Care Music Therapy (HPMT) certificate under the direction of Russell Hilliard in 2023.  She is actively involved in efforts to secure state licensure and state reimbursement of music therapy services alongside the Utah Association of Music Therapists.

Emily's focus with music therapy centers on interpersonal connection, emotional healing and promoting expression through music. Her main goal as a music therapist is to ignite creativity, mindfulness, and emotional integration in her clients. Emily re-energizes through snuggles and playtime with her three awesome kiddos, and would probably join you for a coffee any time of the day!

Jade Avery

MT-BC, MMT, SCMT

Music Therapist | Salt Lake County

Jade [they/them] has been a licensed music therapist since 2016. While most of their experience has been with in-patient psych and behavioral health, they have also worked in memory care, addiction medicine, hospice, k-12 schools, medical settings, and adult day facilities.

Since early high school, Jade knew that music therapy was their calling but it was a long journey of education to get there. Due to lack of access to a program, they spent a couple years as a double degree student for psychology and music composition but have since achieved a masters in music therapy with an emphasis in neuroscience. Mixing lived experience with a diverse and thorough education in mental health, music, and neuroscience, Jade strives to provide a trauma-informed and humanistic centered approach that adapts to the individual and the moment. They are also very passionate about mental health, advocacy, and activism which feeds their drive and purpose in the field and in life.

While they have lived all over the country, they have fallen in love with the west and the feeling of home it gives them. On the weekends, you are most likely to find them out in the mountains or desert with their camera (and adventure cat). When indoors, Jade is often writing music, short stories and poems, developing their painting and drawing skills, watching films, and learning anything about anything. They have an endless need to create, invent, and grow - even when cooking, there is a level of “mad scientist” in the air!
